The Malaysian entertainment scene needs a new rethinking and inertia. For the last many years, local artistes find it almost next to impossible to make a decent living in the industry.
Malay entertainment industry may be more sustainable compared to the rest due to a larger market but many of the artistes do not have staying power. Groups and individuals come and go as quickly as ocean tide. How many Malay artistes are able to create a mass appeal for their music? How many of them can claim to be a popular regional artiste?
Chinese artistes eking out locally find it difficult to break into the regional music scene. Many of them became successful only after they had taken their career to Hong Kong, China or Taiwan.
There is a need to revamp and rethink of a new strategy to revive the local music industry. KL wants to become a regional and an international city. An international city needs a creative industry.
Musicians, artistes, artistes management companies, promoters and recording labels need to come together to work out a new solution.
Malaysia can become a music/entertainment hub if we can embrace change.
GFW is keen to work with local artistes, management companies and record labels to regenerate the local entertainment scene.
