GFW Event: Korea Tourism Awards Night (Inspiring Korea Night 2010)


MALAYSIAN tourists visiting Korea from now to 2012 can expect to have a thrilling time with colourful and thrilling festivals throughout the four seasons.

The Korean Tourism Organisation (KTO) Kuala Lumpur office officially launched the Visit Korea 2010-2012 at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 2.

KTO overseas marketing executive director Rhee Jae Sung said that 227,000 Koreans visited Malaysia in 2009 and they expected the number to increase to 19% this year.

"Korea and Malaysia have a long relationship and there is also a Korean community here.

“There are a lot of festivals in Korea thorughout the year and Malaysians will also like the food,’’ he said.

KTO KL Office managing director Yun Jae Jin said more than 80,000 Malaysians visited Korea last year and they expected more tourists from Malaysia in the next two years.

“Malaysians can rest assured that Korea is a safe place and we have tightened the security there to ensure tourists are safe,’’ he said.

There were many special performances at the launch.

Some of the performers who entertained the guests were Wakaka Crew, Epsilon, Ruff Neck, along with celebration songs presented by Soo Winci and “The Call of Nami Island” theme song — Menanti Hikmat presented by Mawi.

At the dinner, KTO announced the board of directors for Saranghaeyo Korea Club (SKC), which has attracted more than 1,300 Hallyu (Korean Wave) lovers.

There was also a “I’m a Korean Celebrity” Contest which saw Malaysians dressed in traditional Korean costumes dance on stage.

The finale was the award presentation by KTO to fans clubs, members, volunteers, agencies, media partners, and charity organisations.

Some of the guests walked away with raffle draw prizes like a return air ticket to Korea, microwave oven, Wonder Girls concert tickets, hampers, ginseng products and Resort packages.
